Library Board
Library trustees are dedicated to enhancing and expanding library services for their communities. They commit to promoting the library's mission, establishing effective policies, and ensuring responsible stewardship of public funds to meet the diverse needs of community members.
The Chatfield Public Library Board of Trustees, a governing board with full authority over library operations, hires the library director, sets policy, and collaborates with the director to establish the library’s budget. The board develops and implements policies guiding library services and works with library administration on strategic planning and goal setting.
The board is comprised of nine trustees appointed by the Mayor to serve three-year terms, with the option to serve up to three consecutive terms. Additionally, a Student Commissioner may be appointed by the Mayor as a non-voting board member, holding all rights and responsibilities of a trustee except for voting privileges.
To apply for the Library Board, individuals should contact the library director or library staff for the current application process. A majority of trustees must be city residents, with at least one member each from rural Fillmore County and rural Olmsted County, contingent on county funding support.
Regular board meetings are scheduled for the first Thursday of each month at 7:00 p.m., convened as needed at the discretion of the Library Director and Board President. In accordance with Minnesota’s Open Meeting Law, all board and committee meetings are open to the public. Parliamentary procedure follows the latest revised edition of Robert’s Rules of Order, unless otherwise specified in the library's bylaws or relevant statutes.
