Multi-Instrumentalist Todd Green has astounded audiences across the country with his diversity on over 30 acoustic string, flute and percussion instruments from all over the world, inspired by many different cultures in the Middle East, Central Asia, Far East and South America. His performance will be enhanced by digital samplers, which allow him to record and over-dub instruments one by one, making him a one-man-orchestra of unique and exotic instruments. As fascinating to watch as to listen to, Todd intersperses his playing with entertaining explanations of the music and the instruments. Prepare to be amazed!
Todd Green Educational Program – May 14th, 10:30am, Fillmore Central Elementary School
For a more in-depth study of these fascinating instruments, you are also invited to a 60 minute interactive educational program in the Fillmore Central Elementary School stage gym on Saturday, May 14 at 10:30am sponsored by the Preston Public Library. This program is also free and all are invited.
In his 60 minute educational program Todd Green demonstrates over 25 string, flute and percussion instruments from all over the world in a riveting and dynamic “show-and-tell-type” format. He relates all the instruments geographically and culturally as well to some of our familiar western instruments. He also demonstrates unusual rhythms, scales and playing techniques from different cultures. His aim is to “help bring down the barriers that divide us by experiencing other cultures through their music” as he takes folks on this musical armchair-tour of the World.
In conjunction with the Saturday education program and the Sunday concert, the libraries have arranged for Todd to conduct educational clinics for grades K-6 on May 13th at the Chatfield Elementary School beginning at 8:30am and at Fillmore Central School at 1:30pm.
These programs are made possible through a Community Collaboration grant developed by Artistic Promotions Unlimited, public libraries and public and private schools in seven Minnesota communities. Funding comes from the Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund created through the passage of the Clean Water, Land and Legacy Amendment by the vote of Minnesotans in November 2008.
The Fillmore Central Elementary School is located at 702 Chatfield Street NW in Preston and Potter Auditorium, Chatfield Center for the Arts, is located at 405 Main Street South in Chatfield.
