MN Author Tour: Dr. Christopher Lehman

Dr. Christopher Lehman shares how mutually beneficial relationships between southern slaveholders and Minnesotans kept the men and women whose labor generated the wealth enslaved.

Dr. Lehman’s book Slavery’s Reach: Southern Slaveholders in the North Star State won a 2020 MN Book Award, (https://shop.mnhs.org/products/slaverys-reach) and his upcoming book, It Took Courage: Eliza Winston’s Quest for Freedom (https://shop.mnhs.org/products/it-took-courage) will be released on April 16.

Dr. Lehman is a social and cultural historian, and professor of ethnic and women’s studies. Lehman’s work has been enriching the African-American historical canon for the last two decades.
