2013 Friends of the Library Meeting Minutes

MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING OF THE

FRIENDS OF THE LIBRARY

February 21, 2013

AT THE CHATFIELD PUBLIC LIBRARY, CHATFIELD, MINNESOTA

Present:  Mimi, Denise, Susan, Donna, Deborah, and Elaine.  This meeting was held after Friends hosted cake and ice cream celebration of the Library’s 98th birthday.

Minutes from January 2013 read and approved.

Old business:  $20 certificates for library staff to Old Tyme were approved.  Two year terms for officers were approved.  There was a planning session of how to most efficiently do the spring Book Barn shelving.  We will do the Book Barn inventory before shelving any boxes of books and cull, including culling in the stacks and in the boxes before shelving.  Further discussion of where to put the shelving and establishing a shelf for local authors.

New business:  The IRS is reviewing our application for exemption from income tax.  Our check to the IRS was cashed but we are still awaiting a determination letter (990e).

Our Secretary of State registration was renewed.

Treasurer’s Report:  RRSB checking – $1,109.03; savings account – $3,255.45; and SELCO Foundation – $1,418.

Dues are due!   Individual is $10 and Family is $15.

Next meeting is March 21, 2013, at the library.  We may go over to the Book Barn if the weather is warm enough.  The April meeting is scheduled for work at the Book Barn.

Respectfully submitted,

Elaine Stadum

MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING OF THE

FRIENDS OF THE LIBRARY

JANUARY 17, 2013

AT THE CHATFIELD PUBLIC LIBRARY, CHATFIELD, MINNESOTA

Present:  Mimi, Denise and Elaine

Minutes from 11-15-12 read and approved.  There were no minutes from the October meeting as that meeting was a work session on the IRS paperwork.

Treasurer’s report reviewed and accepted.  We received $275 from the sale of the ladders.

Greetings sent from Alabama by Linda Lindsay.

Old business:  Mimi updated us on the Form 1023.  We paid the $100 fee but if we do not qualify for that, then we will have to pay the $300 fee, or an additional $200.  From this point forward, unless we receive over $5,000 in income, sales and donations, all we will have to do is register with the Sec’y of State and complete a postcard Form 990(e) on our income.

New business:

Motion by Mimi and seconded by Denise, approved unanimously that FoL give $20 gift certs. to Old Tyme Café for Christmas presents to the librarians.

FoL will sponsor cake and ice cream to be served from 6:30 p.m. to gone on February 21, 2013, in honor of the Library’s 98th birthday.  Elaine will print up some announcements for Skippys and the library and Mimi will get it into the paper.

We agreed that it would be more efficient if officers served for two years rather than for a year at a time since we have only ten meetings a year and several of those are Book Barn working meetings.  Same slate of officers as are current was accepted for 2013.

Meeting dates for first half of 2013:

2/21/13               3/21/13               4/18/13 (Book Barn work)             5/4/13 (SALE!)                   5/16/13

We discussed briefly what Denise had learned works for upping sales from a SELCO meeting regarding Friends.  One group sold coffee, etc.  And we need better signage and sales tables in front of the library to alert people that we have a Book Barn.
